Mosquito Black Sox Go Down Swinging in Niagara Falls

The SIS Mosquito Black Sox spent the Labour Day weekend in Niagara Falls as part of the 12-team OBA Provincial Championships.

First up for the Sox was the Pickering Red Sox. Going ahead 3-0 in the first inning, the Sox struggled defensively giving up 9 runs in the 2nd inning. The Black Sox couldn't catch up as the Red Sox went on to mercy the Sox 17-6 in 5 innings.

Despite the loss, the Soo outhit Pickering 11-10.

Caden King, Charlie DiCorpo and Tyler Sayers lead the offense each with a double and a single. Braedon Whalen and Bradon Caruso each had 2 singles, and Britney Zack had a single.

Defensively, Bradon Caruso was tagged with the loss, pitching 1.1 innings giving up 5 hits, 6 runs while striking out 1 and wakling 1. Charlie DiCorpo pitched 1.2 innings striking out 2 while giving up 2 hits, 4 walks and 4 runs. Nate Medaglia came in to pitch .2 innings striking out 2 while giving up 3 hits, 7 runs and 4 walks. Ryan Cook pitched to one batter striking him out looking.

On Saturday morning, the SIS Mosquito Black Sox had to play the Milton Mets to stay alive. Coming out with a slow start, the Black Sox trailed the Mets 5-1 after the 2nd inning. In the top of the 3rd, the Black Sox rallied to tie it up at 5. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Mets scored 3 more and scored 1 more in the 4th and 6th ending the complete game at 10-5. This ended the season for the Soo.

Despite the loss, the Soo had 7 hits as did the Mets.

Caden King led the offense again with 2 singles. Bradon Caruso had a double and Ryan Cook, Geryd Lesage, Charlie DiCorpo, and Braedon Whalen each had a single.

Braedon Whalen took the loss pitching 3.2 innings striking out 6 while giving up 8 runs, 5 hits and 3 walks. Tyler Sayers came in as relief to pitch 2.1 innings, striking out 4 while giving up 2 hits, 2 runs and 3 walks.

As the SIS Mosquito Black Sox were knocked out, they all enjoyed the rest of the weekend in Niagara Falls at Marine Land and seeing the world famous Falls.

The coaches would like to thank the parents and sponsors for all their support throughout the season. Without them, the team could not have been possible. We hope that all the players had a fun season, made new friends, and will have baseball memories forever.

SIS Mosquito Black Sox go 1-2 in Oakridge

The SIS Mosquito Black Sox went 1-2 in Oakridge on the weekend with well-played weekend, despite the outcome.

On Friday night, the Sox faced the Coruuna Giants as blew open the score in the 5th inning to get the mercy 15-5.

Jonathan Mackin led the way with a triple and a single with one RBI. Ryan Cook and Charlie DiCorpo had two singles each. Bradon Caruso, Nate Medaglia and Caden King each had a single. Braedon Whalen had 3 RBIs.

Braedon Whalen got the win as he pitched 2 innings, striking out 5 while only giving up 2 hits. Charlie DiCorpo pitched 2.2 innings striking out 4 while giving up 5 hits and Nate Medaglia came in to strike out the last batter to end the game.

On Saturday morning, the Black Sox came out slow only producing 4 hits on route to a 15-9 loss to the Paris Phillies.

Caden King led the way with a triple and a single with 2 RBIs. Bradon Caruso and Charlie DiCorpo each had a single. Nate Medaglia had 2 RBIs.

Bradon Caruso was the losing pitcher, pitching 2 innings, giving up 7 hits. Geryd Lesage and Ryan Cook came in as relief.

In the second game on Saturday, the SIS Mosquito Black Sox faced the home team Oakridge Reds. With a great start, the Sox came up short and the Reds went on to beat the Soo 9-3.

Braedon Whalen led the offense with a triple. Jonathan Mackin hit a double and knocked in all three runs. Britney Zack, Nate Medaglia and Nicholas Porco each had a single.

Braedon Whalen was tagged with the loss pitching 3.2 innings striking out 6 while giving up 3 hits. Nicholas Porco came in relief pitching 2 innings striking out 1 and giving up 4 hits.

Overall, coach Bob Roussain was very pleased with his team's performance. "I'm really happy with the progress we achieved this weekend. We had great pitching, lots of hits, and made some key outs including 2 double plays. All of the players stepped it up and that's what we expect going forward in preparation for the OBA tournament in Niagara Falls."

The SIS Mosquito Black Sox will continue to finish off the regular season in the Pee Wee House League, and prepare for the OBA provincial tournament in Niagara Falls, Ontario on September 2-4, 2011.

SIS Mosquito Black Sox are Mid-Season CHAMPS!

The SIS Mosquito Black Sox won the Pee Wee House League Mid-Season Tournament July 15-17, 2011.

All it took was three wins to capture the trophie beating Red Star Electric 14-8 on the Friday night, Market Mall Pharmacy 6-4 on Saturday and again beating Market Mall Pharmacy 9-5 in the final on Sunday.

"It was a great team effort and everyone played well" says coach Bob Roussain, "we will use this momentum as we prepare for the next tournament in Oakridge, Ontario. "We had great pitching and produced lots of hits. I'm very proud of all the players."
