Pee Wee Black Sox Jell In Orillia

Pee Wee Black Sox Jell In Orillia

Missing Anthony Biocchi to the team North Bantam AAA team practice, a slow start in game one of the Orillia Rep Baseball Tournament this past weekend proved costly to the Pee Wee Black Sox.

After giving up 4 runs in the top of the first the Sox battled all game but ended up on the short end of the stick losing 9-6 to Orillia Royals. Josh Clark and his defense had a rough start but Clark answered with a pair singles and a run scored. Cameron Oliver had a single and came in to pitch the 5th inning to shut down the Orillia attack with a 7 pitch inning. Joel Soltys had a RBI double as Matthew St. Pierre and John MacDonald came off the bench and added singles.

In game two the Sox held off a late charge by the Pelham Panthers to win 8-4. Michael Wilson got the start followed by Joel Soltys. Ronnie Sayers 2 run double in the 3rd proved too much for the Panthers to come back from.
The bats exploded in game three against the Waterloo Tigers AA, pounding 4 doubles, by Brandon Dewar, Michael Wilson, and Josh Clark with two. Clark also had a triple in the first to go with triples from Beau Nolan, Jamis McMaster and Joel Soltys. Nolan got the start throwing 2 solid innings while McMaster threw a gem 12 pitch inning. Cameron Oliver was solid on defense along with Brandon Dewar at first base.

Unfortunately game 4 on Sunday morning seen the bats go dry with runners in scoring position, stranding 8 base runners. Despite a solid defensive game by Noah Byers in left field, Brandon Dewar at first, and a solid 4 inning 48 pitch start by Michael Wilson the Sox fell to the Mississauga Majors AA 9-2. Ronnie Sayers had a triple and single to go with Josh Clark's 2 singles. John MacDonald and Matthew St. Pierre offered clutch base hits coming off the bench all weekend.

The next tournament action for the Pee Wee Sox is July 9-11 when they host the Jamie Biocchi Memmorial Tournament.

Jamie Biocchi 1962-2010

The Soo Selects Baseball Association and the Pee Wee Black Sox are deeply sadden by the sudden passing of their Head Coach, Jamie Biocchi. Jamie went to join his deeply missed son Nicholas in heaven on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at the age of 47. Absolutely cherished husband and best friend of Karen. Fabulous and devoted father of Daniel and Anthony. Adored son of Tullio and Alfia Biocchi (both predeceased). Loving son-in-law of Sylvia and Paul Rollin. Beloved brother of Gail Biocchi-Rebek and Marcy (Frank) Borrelli. Fun brother-in-law to Renee Rollin, Janice (Lino) D’Orazio and Chris (Sandra) Rollin. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Jamie lived his life to the fullest every single day. He will leave a hole in the hearts of his many friends and family. He will always be our #1 fan. I thank Jamie for making me laugh every day. He could always make me smile. We’ll miss his great humor, numerous texts, facebook quotes and constant out pouring of love. My heart will always be his, and we know he will always be watching from the stands. Friends may visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 945-7758) on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at St. Jerome Church at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Hamish Currie officiating. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Education Fund for Daniel and Anthony Biocchi RBC would be greatly appreciated.

Jamie has been involved in Selects Baseball for the past 3 years, Assistant Coaching and Head Coaching his son Anthony. Jamie brought positive attitude and dedication to the field every game and practice. Jamie always found ways to bring the best out of his players. The Pee Wee Black Sox will miss Jamie very much as they continue their season next week wearing an arm band with the initials J.B. In memory of Jamie, the Pee Wee Black Sox Invitational Tournament hosted here July 9-11 will be named the "Jamie Biocchi Memorial Tournament" in honour of his initiative to begin an annual Pee Wee tournament and in honour of his dedication to the game of baseball in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

The Soo Selects Baseball Associations and the Pee Wee Black Sox will miss Jamie very much. Our deepest sympathies goes out to the family.

Local Boys to Compete at Summer Games

Sudbury hosted try-outs over the May long weekend for a chance to play for the Team North Pirates at the Ontario Summer Games later this summer. With over 40 boys age 14 and 15 from across Northern Ontario vying for a position, Sault players competed well for a spot on the 16 member roster. Local players include Coty Anderson, Anthony Biocchi, Tyler Marshall, Scott Morphet, Trevor Sayers and Eric Thornton. All players are part of the local Soo Black Sox organization.

“The success of these players in making the Ontario Summer Games is a testament not only to their skills, but also to the quality of coaching they have received within our Soo Select Baseball organization” says association President Kevin Morphet. “We wish our boys success in the upcoming games and know they will represent our city with pride.”

Also representing Sault Ste. Marie at the games is coach Ryan Johns. Johns will serve as the pitching coach for the Team North Pirates, and currently coaches the Cambrian Nissan Soo Black Sox midget baseball team. Ed Jordan of Sault Ste. Marie will also assist in preparing Team North.

Sudbury will host the 2010 Ontario Summer Games in August, with baseball scheduled from August 10th – 13th. For more information on the 2010 Ontario Summer Games see www.2010ontariosummergames.ca
